Empowering Future Women In Tech: TheeDigital Mentors Local Girl Scout Troop

At TheeDigital, we believe in nurturing the next generation of digital professionals. As part of our commitment to giving back to our community, our team volunteered to mentor a fantastic group of Girl Scouts, teaching them how to build their very own website. We spent time sharing our knowledge and watching these future tech leaders discover the world of web design. The best part? They all earned their Website Designer badges along the way!

Starting with the Fundamentals

Before diving into design, we sat down with the troop to nail down their website goals – and we were seriously impressed by their vision! These forward-thinking Girl Scouts wanted a platform to connect with potential mentors and find new volunteer opportunities in the community. Plus, they smartly planned to use their personal pages to showcase their achievements for future college applications and resumes. Talk about thinking ahead!

Next, we discussed website structure and wireframing. They decided the pages they wanted to include on the website, and then they planned the content they wanted to include on the home page. You should have seen how excited these girls were when we started sketching out the wireframe for their homepage! They came up with so many creative ideas about what content to include and how to organize everything.

Getting Their Hands Dirty with WordPress

With clear goals in place, it was time for the fun part – learning how to make it all happen! We ran a WordPress training session to show them the basics of website building. We showed them how to use our theme and work with Gutenberg blocks – think of them as digital building blocks for websites. These girls picked it up like naturals!

The coolest part was watching them make the website their own. Each Girl Scout created a personal page that showed off who they are, while the whole troop worked together on the homepage and about section. They even built an amazing photo gallery showcasing all their community service projects and volunteer work.

Building More Than Just a Website

Throughout the project, we watched these young leaders:

What’s Next For These Tech-Savvy Girl Scouts?

We couldn’t be prouder of what these Girl Scouts achieved. The website they created is fantastic, and earning their Web Designer badges was the perfect way to celebrate all their hard work. But what really gets us excited is thinking about where these skills might take them. Whether they end up in tech, marketing, or something completely different, they’ve now got some solid digital know-how under their belts.
