Outside of work, Matt is kept busy helping his wonderful wife raise their 4 children. Between taking care of the chickens and the garden, being Vice President of the parent teacher organization, and restoring a century-old home, every day holds an unexpected adventure. They spend a lot of time outdoors hiking and camping around the beautiful appalachian mountains when the weather is nice, and they spend their time indoors building LEGO sets, playing video games, and building the best forts that they can imagine.

Matt particularly loves food. Not just cooking it and sharing it, but studying the relationship between food and culture and the unique ways we percieve flavor. His southern heritage plays a big role in what he cooks at home. On any given weekend you can find cathead biscuits with sawmill gravy, Memphis BBQ in the smoker, and turnip greens simmering on the stove.
